Landing in the JET Program.

October 15, 2018 A couple months before graduating as one of ten students in Centre College's computer science program, I did the natural thing: applied to the JET Program to teach English in Japan. Five months later in early August I arrived alarmed and alone in Kamioka-cho, Hida-shi, Gifu-ken, Japan, but my favorite story about the JET Program is actually the the prelude: my final interview round in Atlanta.

Digg's v4 launch: an optimism born of necessity.

July 2, 2018 Digg was having a rough year. Our CEO left the day before I joined. Senior engineers ghosted out the door, dampening productivity and pulling their remaining friends. We had only one remaining shot at revival, launching our two-years in the making rewrite: Digg v4. It did not go as planned.

The Day I Broke Production

February 14, 2010 A reflection on a day when I accidentally broke a production environment by trying to fix a failed deployment. Definitely one of my learning experiences from the past year.
