Here are ways I’m available to help!
Bio and headshots for an event? Check at the bottom.
Hi folks,
I’m a software engineering leader, and have the good fortune to serve as the CTO supporting the engineering team at Calm. Before that, I got to work at Stripe, Uber, Digg, and a few other places. I also cofounded a misguided iOS gaming startup, Monocle Studios, with Luke Hatcher. We made thousands of dollars over six months, and spent the next six years trying to figure out how to stop paying taxes.)
In 2019, I published my first book, An Elegant Puzzle: Systems of Engineering Management, which has sold rougly 35,000 copies in two years. In 2021, I published my second book, Staff Engineer, which so far has sold about 7,000 copies in its first two months. I imagine I’ll write another book at some point, although nothing further is in progress right now!
I’ve been writing on this blog, Irrational Exuberance, since 2007, and have written a bit over six hundred posts so far. In 2018, I started doing some speaking as well most notably about infrastructure migrations at QCon SF, and the infamous Digg v4 launch on the Internet History Podcast.
Further back, I grew up in North Carolina, studied computer science at Centre College in Kentucky, and spent a year in Japan on the JET Program.
