Hi folks,

I'm a software engineering leader, and have the good fortune to support the team at Calm. Before that, I had the good fortunate to work at Stripe, Uber, Digg, and a few other places. I also cofounded a misguided iOS gaming startup, Monocle Studios, with Luke Hatcher. We made thousands of dollars over six months, and spent the next six years trying to figure out how to stop paying taxes.)

In 2019, I published my first book, An Elegant Puzzle: Systems of Engineering Management. In 2021, I published my second book, Staff Engineer. I imagine I'll write another book at some point, although nothing further is in progress right now!

I've been writing on this blog, Irrational Exuberance, since 2007, and have written a bit over six hundred posts so far. In 2018, I started doing some speaking as well, most notably about infrastructure migrations at QCon SF, and the infamous Digg v4 launch on the Internet History Podcast.

Further back, I grew up in North Carolina, studied computer science at Centre College in Kentucky, and spent a year in Japan on the JET Program.

Always excited to hear from folks, please do drop a note!
