Want help with something? Here are ways I'm availble to help!

Hi folks,

I've been writing on this blog for some time now, starting in 2007. Since then, I've written almost five hundred posts, and am still writing. In 2018, I started doing some speaking as well, most notably about infrastructure migrations at QCon SF, and the infamous Digg v4 launch on the Internet History Podcast.

I've lived in San Francisco since ~2009, working at some wonderful companies: Yahoo! BOSS, Digg, SocialCode, Uber, Stripe and now Calm. Most excitingly, I've written up much of what I've learned into An Elegant Puzzle: Systems of Engineering Management, which is available now.

A long time ago, I also cofounded a really misguided iOS gaming startup, Monocle Studios, with Luke Hatcher. We made thousands of dollars over six months, and spent the next six years trying to figure out how to stop paying taxes. It was a bit of a missed opportunity.

Even further back, I grew up in North Carolina, studied computer science at Centre College in Kentucky, and spent a year in Japan on the JET Program.

Always excited to hear from folks, please do drop a note!
