Great tutorial so far -- thanks for putting it together.

The only thing I would point out is that you shouldn't use GET to send update the votes. You can get into trouble with web accelerators that prefetch pages, for example. I haven't looked into what poll.up() or down() are doing, but I suspect they're updating the database which, in this case at least, is what you want POST for.
