My romantic image of programmers is that of artisan, and not as professional; although there is room for professionalism as well from time-to-time.
What experienced programmer hasn't seen a few of his favourite technologies become bloated and obtuse from too much professionalism (XML); or simply become tiresome as the result of too much familiarity (Java).
